Kevin Ryan Collection

A Guide to the Kevin Ryan Collection was published by the Tom Brock Bequest Committee in 2000. It was compiled by Ms Jennifer Bolton, MIM-Archiv/Rec (UNSW) BA (UNE).

The Collection, which is housed in the Social Sciences and Humanities Library, The University of New South Wales, includes material on issues of industrial relations in Rugby League from 1988 to 1997.

Kevin Ryan was prominent in the Association of Rugby League Professionals, the player association, during this period.

Kevin Ryan represented Australia in both Rugby and Rugby League and was an integral member of seven successive winning Grand Final teams for St George. He was later captain-coach and coach of Canterbury-Bankstown. His nickname 'Kandos' (as in cement) captured his approach to the game, hard and durable, physically large and mobile, his ferocious commitment made him
a feared and respected opponent.

Mr Ryan was admitted as a barrister-at-law in 1970. He also in the 1970s pursued a political career. He became a councillor then Mayor of Hurstville and, from 1976 to 1984, was a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly.
